How This Calculator Works

Wardrobe cost is calculated per square foot of shutter area (width × height), using the formula Total Area × Type Rate, where total area is the width times height of one wardrobe, multiplied by how many wardrobes you need. Hinged wardrobes are the most budget-friendly option since they use simple hinges and no sliding track. Sliding wardrobes cost more because of the aluminium track and soft-close mechanism, but save floor space since the doors do not swing open, which matters in smaller bedrooms common across Kolkata, Medinipur and Ghatal homes. Walk-in wardrobes cost the most because they are built as a dedicated room-within-a-room, with open shelving, hanging space and drawer units on multiple sides.

The finish you choose (laminate, acrylic/PU, or veneer) adds an extra rate per square foot on top of the base type rate, reflecting the real cost difference in sheet material and the extra care needed in handling and installing acrylic or veneer shutters without chipping or surface damage.

Add-ons are priced to reflect what they actually cost to build: a loft above the wardrobe is priced using a smaller assumed depth (2 ft) since lofts are shallower than the main wardrobe, internal accessories (drawer units, a trouser rack, an internal mirror) are priced as a flat amount per wardrobe since they are usually bundled as a fixed internal kit, and a full-height mirror shutter adds a per-square-foot premium to reflect the toughened mirror glass and edge-banding required.

As with our other calculators, the total is shown as a range rather than one fixed number, since exact pricing depends on your specific wall dimensions, any beams or columns that interrupt the wardrobe run, and the final internal configuration you choose with your designer.

Tip: prioritise hardware quality (soft-close hinges and channels) over shutter finish if you have to choose. A plain laminate wardrobe with good hardware will still open and close smoothly in five years. A high-gloss acrylic wardrobe with poor hardware will start sagging within two.

How is wardrobe cost calculated?

Wardrobe cost is typically priced per square foot of shutter area (width x height), multiplied by a rate that depends on wardrobe type (hinged, sliding or walk-in) and finish material.

Is sliding or hinged cheaper?

Hinged wardrobes are generally the most budget-friendly option. Sliding wardrobes cost more due to the track and soft-close hardware, but save floor space since the doors do not swing open.

Should I add a loft above my wardrobe?

A loft adds extra storage for items you use rarely (luggage, seasonal items) and is usually a cost-effective way to add storage, priced lower per sqft than the main wardrobe shutters.
