How This Calculator Works

Modular kitchens are priced by running feet, the combined length of your base and wall cabinets along the walls, not by the floor area of the kitchen room itself. The core formula is Running Feet × Finish Rate × Layout Complexity Multiplier. Laminate is the most practical, budget-friendly finish. Acrylic/PU gives a high-gloss, premium look but shows fingerprints and smudges more easily. Veneer gives a natural wood grain look but needs more care in humid weather, which matters here in Bengal's climate.

The layout you pick changes the complexity multiplier, because corner units, extra wall junctions and returns genuinely take more labour and more precise carpentry to execute well. A straight single-wall kitchen uses a multiplier of 1.0, L-shape 1.05, parallel 1.08, U-shape 1.12, and island layouts 1.15, reflecting the additional corner units, support structures and finishing work each layout requires.

Hardware and fittings (hinges, channels, drawer systems) are calculated as 15% of your cabinetry cost by default, using standard-quality hardware. If you toggle on the branded soft-close hardware upgrade, we add a further ₹150 per running foot, reflecting the real difference between unbranded and branded (Hettich, Blum, Ebco-grade) hinges and channels, which is the single most common place budget kitchens cut corners.

Countertop cost is calculated separately, using your running feet as the counter length (assuming a standard 2 ft counter depth), priced per running foot for granite or quartz. Add-ons like a tall unit/pantry, loft storage and a chimney with hob are priced as flat amounts reflecting typical carpentry, ducting and installation cost for that specific addition.

Tip: if two kitchen quotes differ significantly for what looks like the same running feet, ask both for the plywood grade (BWR/BWP vs commercial) and the named hardware brand. That is almost always where the real difference in long-term quality, and price, comes from.

How much does a modular kitchen cost in Kolkata, Medinipur or Ghatal?

A standard modular kitchen typically ranges from 1.2 lakh to 3.5 lakh depending on running length, layout and finish material. Use the calculator above for an estimate based on your exact kitchen.

What is "running feet" and how do I measure it?

Running feet is the total length of your base and wall cabinets added together along the walls. For a typical L-shaped kitchen this is usually 12-16 running feet.

Which finish should I choose: laminate, acrylic or veneer?

Laminate is the most practical and budget-friendly choice for most kitchens. Acrylic/PU gives a high-gloss premium look but shows fingerprints more easily. Veneer gives a natural wood look but needs more maintenance in humid weather.
